In a major new development acknowledging the power of social media, the Australian family law courts – the Family Court and Federal Circuit Court (with the exception of the WA Family Court) – have launched YouTube channels.
The official YouTube channels will showcase informational videos aimed at helping un-represented litigants (also called ‘self-represented litigants’ or occasionally ‘SRLs’ with court procedures relating to family law. However, they can also be helpful for clients who have solicitors but would like a ‘refresher’ on topics.
The first video to be uploaded focuses on serving divorce documents, an area identified by the courts as causing confusion for litigants.
The video is entitled “How to apply for a divorce: serving divorce papers” and can be found at www.youtube.com/familycourtAU or www.youtube.com/federalcircuitcourt.
As more videos are uploaded, the range of topics will increase, so bookmark those channels for future reference.
