Cristina Huesch, Principal and Managing Director

Cristina speaks German as a second language and studied in Germany for three years. Cristina holds a Master’s Degree in Applied Law (Family Law Practice) and is a NSW Law Society Accredited Specialist (Accredited Specialist Scheme). She is accredited in Collaborative Practice, an approach to family law that aims to achieve outcomes based on the ‘interests’ of all parties, as opposed to a traditional ‘positional’ based approach. She is qualified to be appointed by the court as an Independent Children’s Lawyer.

Cristina obtained her first degree from Sydney University before undertaking post graduate study with Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, the Legal Practitioners Admissions Board, the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), and the College of Law in Sydney. Prior to establishing Alliance Family Law, Cristina was a Partner for one of the largest family law firms in Australia.  More about Cristina

Mandarin speaking family lawyer

Angela Li, Associate

Angela speaks Mandarin as a second language. Angela is a graduate of the Australian National University with the following degrees of Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Laws with Honours, and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice. Angela is passionate about family law and is committed to assisting clients with their family law issues in an efficient manner.

If you do not have strong English skills, we will arrange to have all documents translated prior to signature. If necessary, we can arrange for a translator to be present during conferences to ensure technical legal words and concepts are properly explained and understood.

Family Court of Australia

The Family Court of Australia has specialist Judges to help resolve the most complex family law disputes. The  Court consists of a Chief Justice, a Deputy Chief Justice, and other Judges.

The Court’s goal is to “deliver excellence in service for children, families and parties through effective judicial and non-judicial processes and high-quality and timely judgments while respecting the needs of separating families”.

The Court’s Canberra registry is on the corner of University Ave and Childers Street. The court is open to the public although it is an offence to report the details of any proceedings in a way that could identify the parties.

Domestic Violence

Domestic violence can include:

  • verbal attacks such as belittling, shouting and yelling
  • physical attacks involving striking or threats to strike, holding or restraining in an unwanted way
  • behaviour that plays on your emotions
  • behaviour of an unwanted sexual nature
  • controlling access to money, food, or travel
  • behaviour that overly monitors your movements, or that involves stalking
  • being neglected where you are dependent on another person
  • damage or harm to property or a pet

Domestic violence can range from very subtle to very obvious actions. If a member of your family is using controlling, threatening, intimidating, or violent behaviour directly towards you or that causes anyone in your household to be afraid this may be domestic violence and you should seek advice and support.

A smartphone app has been developed by the Women’s Legal Service in Queensland.  Called Re-Focus it is a free, easy-to-use and interactive App for women who have separated or are thinking of separating. It covers legal information about domestic violence, arrangements for children, financial and property matters, options for reaching a legal agreement, and safe accommodation. It also provides helpful referrals and coping tips about separation. Please think about whether it is safe for you to download and right for your situation.

They also offer a smartphone app to provide financial tips, legal information and referrals for women who have experienced domestic and family violence called Penda.

Both the Re-Focus and Penda apps can be downloaded through Google Play or the Apple App Store
