Sally Faulker – Alternatives to TV Abductions

The Sally Faulker case has resulted in a lot of media condemnation. However the question remains of what viable alternatives the mother in this case had to get her children back. The good news for any parents with children overseas is that abduction isn’t the only way to bring children back to Australia. Under the Hague Convention there are processes Australia and other signatory countries can follow to resolve parenting disputes. The Australian government also has the ability to negotiate with their counterparts in other countries on these issues. However resolving parenting disputes is always a tricky issue – something Alliance recognises and addresses to give our clients the support they need. To give parents greater rights in such cases the Australian government is also considering passing new legislation.
