Attorney-General Christian Porter continues to prove his naysayers wrong and has acted fast to help unlock the congestion in the family court system with more judges appointed to family court 
roles, filling three more vacancies in the Family Courts soon after his recent six Family Court and Federal Circuit Court appointments.
While there are many contributing factors to a slow family court system, one that has been regularly flagged is successive Governments’ failures to fill judicial vacancies for long periods of time.
And now, coming soon after recently appointing Judges Joshua Wilson and Robert Harper to Family Court benches and Judges Doug Humphries, Monica Neville, Anthony Morley and Anna Boymal to the Federal Circuit Court, Porter has also announced there have been more judges appointed to family court benches, with Judge Christine Mead to the Adelaide Registry and Judge Norah Hartnett to the Melbourne Registry (both coming from the Federal Circuit Court). Further, the attorney-general has also appointed the Hon Justice Peter Tree to the Appeal Division of the Family Court of Australia.
All three come with solid family law credentials. Judge Mead is a solicitor and barrister most of whose career has been spent in family law; similarly Judge Hartnett has specialised in family law including at the bar and the bench. Also significantly experienced in family law, the Hon Justice Tree has been a Family Court judge for the past six years and now joins the Appeals court benches.
